"Casa Antigua" is located in the Vedado section (click for Havana map), approximately in the north-east quadrant, almost in limits with Nuevo Vedado and Playa. We live in the upper part of the house, far enough from the noisy downtown life (La Rampa), but only a 50 meter walk from the house to the 23rd Street, the main city avenue and about a 10 minute walk from the Malecón.

Many of the best hotels and nightclubs in Havana are in El Vedado, such as the famous National Hotel, Havana Libre Hotel and the Meliá-Cohiba Hotel with the Havana Café. Other famous places are the Jazz Café, La Zorra y el Cuervo (jazz music), Turquino Discotheque, Friendship House, and the Café Cantante, along with many others that you will get to know through your walks, or through any specialized tourist guide books.

In all of these places you can eat, but our house is close to many economical options, such as the El Lugar and Pekin Restaurants, the 26th and 23rd Street Rapidito, El Hueco Paladar, as well as some small private houses that offer congrís rice and pork steak with vegetables for only $1.00 dollar or pizzas for $0.50 CUC.

In most of these places prices range from $5.00 CUC. to $10.00 CUC. per person (if you are not a heavy drinker!)

Also, places like the Decorative Arts Museum, Napoleonic Museum, Ballet Museum, and some other places of interest can be visited in El Vedado, as well as the Colón Cemetery, and the very well-known Revolution Square, which are located very close to our house. Also nearby is the Vía Azul and Astro Bus Stations, in case you wish to travel to other provinces.

You can walk to any place in El Vedado in no more than 45 minutes, but you can also take an official taxi for the following prices: $2.50 CUC to La Rampa, up to $5.00 CUC to hotels and discotheques, and $5.00 CUC- $6.00 CUC to Old Havana.  Sometimes you can also get a shared “collective taxi” (widely used by the locals) for only $0.50 CUC from Playa through Miramar, 23rd Street , Centro Habana,. and the Capitol.
